SFA: The Limits and Necessities of The Holocaust and Injustice Today ‘Never Again’:
The Holocaust and Injustice Today
July 28, 2020
What do we mean when we say ‘Never Again?’ What are the limitations and benefits of comparing racism and human rights violations today with events of the Holocaust?
In this community workshop, we will think critically about how intergenerational memory and inherited trauma can require us to make urgent comparisons between the Holocaust and ongoing atrocities. And we will consider lessons that the Holocaust holds for understanding perpetratorship, bystanderism, survivorship, and resistance.
Drawing on the testimony of Michael Bauer, the gay son of Jewish Holocaust survivors who lived through the AIDS Crisis, we will ask: When is it okay to draw comparisons and connections between Holocaust history and injustice today?
