The Holocaust Memorial Research & Education Center of Florida in line with fulfillment of their mission to “use the history and lessons of the Holocaust to build a just and caring community free of antisemitism and all forms of prejudice and bigotry” held a commemorative event in honor of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day). This meaningful and inspirational service, held at the Jewish Community Center in Maitland, paid respects to the tragedy of the Holocaust, remembered those who perished, and honored Orlando area survivors. The event included a candle-lighting ceremony and live music from Israeli Scouts. The ceremony ended with the audience taking part in the meditative walk to Lake Lilly Park and back, as part of the IAC 6 Million Steps initiative. Six million Steps is a unique International effort led by the Israeli American Council and our community partners, preserving the memory of the lives lost during the Holocaust and bringing attention to the alarming resurgence of antisemitism in the US and around the world.
